About Us
History
The Center for Women's Ministries, Inc., was
founded in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1989. It grew from the Spirit-led conviction that
although there are many social service agencies available, the element lacking in
emotional healing is a spiritual emphasis.
The Center for Women's Ministries, Inc., is a free,
non-denominational ministry for women promoting emotional and spiritual healing. Our
primary purpose is crisis intervention with a spiritual emphasis. The ministry is
designed to create an environment where non-judgmental listening, sharing,
encouragement and prayer support can take place. We network with Focus on the Family, Prison Fellowship Ministries, New Life Clinics, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, American Assn. of Christian Counselors, and other faith-based organizations.
Facilities are staffed by crisis volunteers and are
open primarily weekdays. They offer individual counseling sessions with
paraprofessionals, support groups related to the community's specific
needs, Bible studies and prayer groups. Centers offer such facilities as
counseling rooms, lounge, lending library and meditation chapel. Training
sessions, seminars and retreats are conducted for volunteers' growth.
Possible Areas of Ministry
Abuse, childlessness, co-dependency, death, depression,
divorce, eating disorders, fears and phobias, jail, illness and disability, parenting,
pregnancy, promiscuity, relationships, self-esteem, sexuality, singleness,
spirituality, suicide, woundedness from childhood.
What We Are
We are a safe place for hurting women to come in order
to receive non-judgmental listening, comfort, encouragement and support. We are here
to point women to Jesus Christ, and to encourage them to draw closer to
God through Christ.
We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation,
tax-exempt.
What We Are Not
We are not professional therapists. We recognize that
some women need the help of someone more extensively trained than we are. In these
situations, we refer from an approved list of professionals.
Though we are part of the universal church body, we
are not a church. We want to provide a welcome atmosphere for hurting women, whatever
their circumstances and whatever their church affiliation. We encourage church
attendance and provide suggestions that may meet their expectations.
What We Need
Local centers have no paid staff and do not charge for
their services. The national office has a small paid staff who work with local groups to
establish, develop and sustain local centers. We all rely on God to
provide for our needs through the generosity of people and groups who
believe in this ministry.
